Inspired-by-Assor initiative empowers women and girls in Akyem Hemang

Chartered Marketer and Head of Brands Management at AT (formerly AirtelTigo), Nancy Assor Asiedu-Amrado, has launched the Inspired-by-Assor initiative to economically empower women and inspire young girls in education.

The event, held in Akyem Hemang, drew participants from neighboring communities, including Dome and Gyampomani.

The initiative, which coincided with International Women’s Day, focused on instilling strong personal values, goal setting, and action planning as tools for success. Assor encouraged the participants to “think big, work hard, and take strategic steps toward achieving their aspirations.”

As part of the program, Assor donated 1,000 customized exercise books to students and provided five Veronica buckets, gallons of liquid soap, and perfumed wash softeners to schools and the community. She emphasized the importance of good hygiene and frequent handwashing, particularly in light of the ongoing cholera outbreak.

To promote economic empowerment, Assor and her team trained women in the production of local liquid soap and perfumed after-wash detergents, equipping them with branding and marketing strategies to commercialize their products using both traditional and digital platforms.

“We have been behind for so long. We don’t have time to waste,” she stated. “Women should be confident, work hard, and accelerate actions needed to achieve our gender parity goals.” She also urged men and community leaders to support women in their quest for economic independence.

As part of the initiative, Assor launched the Inspired-by-Assor Mentorship & Awards Scheme for young girls and established the Women’s Empowerment Network to provide continuous support for women in the community.

The Chief of Akyem Hemang, Osabarima Mmirrikkissi Okasum Apori Atta, praised the initiative, urging its expansion to other communities. “Inspired-by-Assor is a laudable initiative and should not end here. Continue to work with more communities until all our women and girls attain financial independence,” he said. He also called on government agencies like MASLOC to provide soft loans to support women in their entrepreneurial endeavors.

The event was attended by dignitaries including Hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum, former MP for Fanteakwa South, Nana Ntori Agyebeng, Gyaasehene of Akyem Hemang and former District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa South, as well as school heads, teachers, and students from various educational institutions in the region.

The Inspired-by-Assor initiative marks a significant step toward empowering women and girls in Akyem Hemang and beyond, fostering economic self-sufficiency and educational advancement.
