From humble supporter to Stooled Chief: The unforgettable journey of Nana Kwame Amo Tuffour
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In a moment that surprised everyone present at Manhyia Palace, Mr. Kwame Amo Tuffour experienced a life-changing elevation as he was unexpectedly enstooled as Otumfuo Tromoo Akwasi Hene, succeeding his uncle during a solemn traditional ceremony.

Exactly a year ago, dressed in simple black shorts, a polo shirt, and flip-flops, Mr. Tuffour entered the revered Manhyia Palace with no intention of becoming the center of attention.

He had come solely to support his uncle, who had once served as Otumfuo Tromoo Akwasi Hene, during his formal installation as the Oyoko Anyinase Hene a stool that holds deep significance within Mr. Tuffour’s maternal family lineage.

What followed, however, was both unexpected and historic.

Moments after the Oyoko delegation, led by Nana Yoko Hene, had presented their case before the Kumasi Traditional Council and Nananom Akyeame, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, gave a surprising directive.

He instructed the Ankobea Fekuo, under the leadership of Otumfuo Ankobeahene, to bring Mr. Tuffour before him.

In a brief but powerful pronouncement, His Majesty announced his decision to elevate Mr. Tuffour to occupy the stool vacated by his uncle.

The sudden turn of events took everyone by surprise, given the elaborate and typically prolonged processes that accompany traditional enstoolments within Asante custom.

Overwhelmed yet honored, Mr. Tuffour had only moments to compose himself before preparations began for his possession rites and assumption of office.

“What a day it was!” he recounted, reflecting on the unforgettable moment. “For Asantehene to recognize and bless you in such a way was absolutely priceless and unforgettable.”

With his enstoolment came a new identityNana Kwame Amo Tuffour, Otumfuo Tromoo Akwasi Hene and a mantle of responsibility he readily embraced.

“Reality dawned on me,” he shared. “The only thing I remember telling myself was, ‘Life truly begins at 40.’ I knew the responsibilities and challenges that came with such a role, and I was prepared for it.”

His story is not just a personal milestone but a testament to the enduring legacy and reverence of the Asante chieftaincy institution.

Nana Tuffour now finds himself actively engaged across the region, attending cultural events, family programs, and traditional gatherings every weekend.

Balancing his new duties with his other commitments has not been without challenges, but he remains anchored in faith and purpose.

“I’m forever grateful to the King of the Warrior Asante Kingdom for this honor. I remain his dedicated and humble servant.”

As Otumfuo Tromoo Akwasi Hene, Nana Kwame Amo Tuffour serves not only as a symbol of continuity but as a reminder that destiny can unfold in the most unexpected moments even in flip-flops.
