James Gyakye Quayson, Member of Parliament for Assin North, has expressed deep appreciation to Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh of the High Court following his acquittal on multiple criminal charges, including forgery and perjury.
Quayson, who had been on trial for allegedly forging official documents and lying under oath, was cleared of all five charges on Monday. Speaking after the verdict, the MP said the ruling affirmed his long-standing claim of innocence and demonstrated the resilience of Ghana’s justice system.
“When a man is innocent, no matter what you do, the truth will eventually come out,” Quayson stated emotionally. “This was persecution, not prosecution. But I held on because I knew justice would prevail.”
He praised Justice Yanzuh for her impartiality and courage in upholding the rule of law despite public and political pressures. “Lady Justice stood firm. She is a decent and principled human being, and I thank her for staying true to her oath,” he added.
The Assin North MP also acknowledged the support of his legal team, constituents, and fellow Members of Parliament who stood by him throughout the legal battle. “This victory is not just mine. It belongs to every Ghanaian who believes in justice and due process,” he said.
Quayson described the trial as a trying period that tested his faith and resilience but noted that he remained confident in the outcome because of his innocence.
His acquittal ends a high-profile case that has drawn national attention since his election in 2020, with debates over dual citizenship, eligibility, and electoral integrity. The ruling is expected to bring some clarity and closure to a politically charged episode.
