The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, says the 2024 election results is warning to the current NDC government to dare not lower the bar of good governance as witnessed under the previous administration.

“This December 7 2024 reset is one that is telling us we must learn lessons. A reset that is much more deep, a reset that transforms the very heart of the people of Ghana across political parties. It is a call to NDC that you dare not lower the bar. Because where we have reached now, we’re are not in normal times” Fiifi Kwetey stated.

He averred, it is time for Ghana to have a massive take off to position the country on the path of economic progress and development.

“The moment has come for Ghana to have a massive take off and enough is enough if the two political parties are not ready to rise , therefore new force is needed”

He explained that the Reset Agenda is not about a mere change of government or winning elections, but about winning back the trust and hearts of the Ghanaian people.

“So some people in NDC thought reset is political talk, time to tame the NPP. Now it is our time so let’s try to do just a little bit so the people will keep us in power”.

He continued “This reset is bigger than elections. The reset is winning the hearts and minds of the people of Ghana for this country to rise to where it has always been destined to go. So the two political parties must understand they are simply channels to transform the country. Therefore the petty comparisons must stop. NDC is better than NPP, Yes it’s true I believe in that, but the standard is not NDC, the standard is Ghana that is great and strong than any political parties”

The General Secretary of NDC said this when Speaking at the 46th anniversary of the June 4 uprising held at Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region.

He urged Ghanaians to reflect deeply on the lessons of June 4, describing it as a pivotal moment in the country’s history with enduring relevance

Mr. Kwetey said the events of June 4, 1979, carry lessons that remain crucial for Ghana’s democratic and national development.

“Ghana must come to terms with June 4 because it carried lessons we can learn from,” he stressed.

The June 4 uprising, led by then Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings, founder of NDC was a significant event in Ghana’s political history, driven by calls for, probity, accountability and justice against corruption and mismanagement by the ruling elite.

This year’s event was under the theme “Resetting Ghana; Reflecting on June 4,” It brought together key figures of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), political leaders, and children of the former President Jerry John Rawlings.

Leading the gathering was the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, accompanied by General Secretary Fiifi Kwetey, former National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, and former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor.

Also in attendance were Deputy Minister for Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Teilarbi, and the children of the late President Rawlings — Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and Kimathi Rawlings.

The commemorative ceremony featured a wreath-laying and lighting of flame events in honour of fallen heroes of the June 4 Uprising, solidarity messages, and speeches reflecting on the significance of the uprising and its enduring lessons for Ghana’s governance and political culture.

Eastern Regional chairman of NDC Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor appealed appealed to National chairman of NDC to make participation in June 4 by government appointees and NDC executives compulsory for the young onces to learn lessons and be imbibed with the spirit and principles of the historic event.

He also want government to re -declare June 4 a national holiday to reflect on its principles.
