Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini, special aide to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has publicly challenged former Assin South MP Kennedy Agyapong’s recent criticisms of Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and electoral performance.
On his official Facebook page, Khomeini dismissed Agyapong’s assertion that Dr. Bawumia should not be given a second term as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer due to losing over two million votes in the 2024 elections.
He described Agyapong’s logic as “faulty” and accused him of ranting rather than reasoning.
He wrote “Kennedy Agyepong’s logic has always been faulty. He rants more than he reasons.”
Khomeini recalled that Agyapong had previously conceded that the NPP lost the 2022 election and predicted that John Mahama would be president after 2024, regardless of the NPP’s candidate.
He also noted that Agyapong was convinced the party would lose the 2023 primary and now argues against Bawumia’s second chance despite having lost his own constituency to the opposition in 2024.
He noted “Ken was fortified in his view that it didn’t matter who would be elected in the primary of 2023, we would still be defeated. In 2025, he is arguing that the party should not grant a second chance to Dr. Bawumia.
“But this same man gifted his constituency to the NDC in 2024. If he could not secure his constituency for the NPP, why should the NPP give him a chance? If others are to repay his actions against the party, Government, and Dr. Bawumia, how would he be able to lead the NPP assuming he is made a candidate?” Khomeini questioned.
Background:
Kennedy Agyapong had earlier criticized Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, arguing that the NPP should not re-nominate him given the significant electoral defeat.
He contrasted Bawumia’s performance unfavorably with previous NPP flagbearers, stating that losing over two million votes was unprecedented and unacceptable. Agyapong claimed grassroots support would shift to him if he contested as flagbearer.
