Malik Basintele, CEO of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), says the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) concerns over a potential third term for President John Dramani Mahama stem from his track record of effective leadership and dedication to national development.
Speaking at Prophet Nigel Gaisel’s Prophet Hill Church, Basintele emphasized that President Mahama has demonstrated a commitment to Ghana’s prosperity that has earned both respect and concern.
Speaking on the matter, he said, “He’s a good man, a man who has Ghana at heart, a man who wishes Ghana to prosper, a man who feels every second that dedicating his life to the cause of this country and he has done that and executed diligently, at least in the last seven months.”
According to Basintele, the fear some express about a third term for Mahama indicates recognition of his accomplishments.
“Anyone who would want a third term will mean that he has performed, and it will mean that you are also afraid because you know he’s performing,” he stated.
He further argued that if there were no fear of Mahama’s progress, there would be no worry about a third term bid, adding, “If you are not afraid he’s performing, you know that even if he wants a third term, Ghanaians will not give him a third term. But because you know what he’s doing is what Ghanaians want, you are scared of a third.”
On the issue of whether President Mahama should pursue a third term, Basintele deferred to spiritual guidance.
“As for that third term, I will leave it to the Prophet. When the Prophet consults and says God in heaven says continue (Toaso), I, Malik Basintele, the leader and commander of 5K and 3K women, aka The Basintele Boy, will follow,” he declared.
He concluded by calling for prayers for both President Mahama and himself, urging supporters to “just as remember my father John Mahama in prayers, remember me as well.”
