Kofi Adu Domfeh has been elected as the new Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) after winning a rerun election on Friday, August 22.
Domfeh secured 20 out of 31 valid votes cast to defeat his sole contender, Georgina Ama Ankomah, who polled 11. No ballots were rejected.
The rerun was ordered by the GJA Elections Dispute Adjudication Committee (EDAC) after the June 30, 2025, regional elections were annulled due to procedural irregularities.
The committee cited breaches of the association’s constitution and concerns over voter eligibility, including reports of a journalist registered in Greater Accra casting a ballot in the Ashanti Region.
To ensure credibility, the EDAC directed a fresh election within 14 working days.
The rerun was conducted under strict guidelines, including the exclusion of supplementary voter lists and the early publication of the final register.
Domfeh now takes charge of the Ashanti Region branch of the GJA, following weeks of uncertainty surrounding the disputed polls.
