King Zuba Blasts NPP’s 50gh “Broke Money” Vote-Buying at Akwatia By-Election

KMA Boss, Ofori Agyeman Boadi, widely known as King Zuba has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of distributing GH₵50 to each voter during the recently concluded Akwatia by-election, describing the handouts as nothing more than “broke money.”

King Zuba’s comments come amid a tense political atmosphere, as the NPP had earlier accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of engaging in monetary inducements to sway voters in the by-election.

In a counter-response to these accusations, King Zuba spoke to a JoyNews reporter at the polling station, offering a firsthand account of what he described as blatant vote-buying by the NPP.

“I witnessed the distribution of 50 cedis right there by the big tree,” King Zuba recounted.

“If you are going to accuse others of sharing money, you must come with clean hands. They are the ones handing out 50 cedis.”

When pressed by the journalist to confirm whether he was accusing the NPP of this practice, King Zuba was clear “They are distributing 50 cedis, right at the tree where those men are gathered. It’s 50 cedis, broke money they’re sharing.”

Challenged on whether he or his party had engaged in any similar activity, King Zuba firmly denied any wrongdoing on his side.

“Have you seen me give out any money?” he asked rhetorically.

The journalist pursued the question further, but Zuba remained resolute, “I am here giving you evidence of money sharing on the NPP’s side only. Behind that tree, where those men stand, 50 cedis are being handed out. That is what they are known for.”

The allegations add fuel to an already heated dispute between Ghana’s two main political parties during the Akwatia by-election, underscoring concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.

Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi, MP for New Juaben South, alleged on Accra-based Asaasepa Radio that the NDC allegedly paid voters between GH₵500 and GH₵1,000 during the recently concluded Akwatia by-election.

As both parties trade accusations, voters and observers alike are left questioning the influence of money on electoral outcomes.
