Police arrest two over alleged plot to assassinate Chief in Eastern Region
The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for allegedly plotting to assassinate a chief in the Eastern Region ahead of his upcoming royal durbar.
The suspects, identified as Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth, were arrested following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered a plan to eliminate the chief before his first Royal Durbar, scheduled for October 17, 2025, at Akyem Kwabeng.
According to a police statement signed by DSP David Fianko-Okyere, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Eastern South Regional Police Command, the arrests were made after a police intelligence team infiltrated the suspects’ network on October 11, 2025.
During the covert operation, suspect Emelia Akua Asor allegedly offered GHC 50,000 to undercover officers to carry out the assassination of the chief and another woman who was reportedly set to be installed as Queen Mother.
She also instructed Butuakwa Seth to help identify the victims’ residences.
Police say Butuakwa Seth subsequently led officers to the homes of the chief and the woman and even provided a photograph of the chief to aid in the planned attack.
The suspects reportedly promised an additional GHC 50,000 upon successful completion of the crime.
Both suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court soon.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, particularly traditional leaders within the region.
