The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has held meeting with officials of the United States Embassy and the Canadian High Commission in Accra to discuss visa arrangements for Ghanaian football fans following the Black Stars’ qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The meetings, held on Tuesday, brought together key stakeholders including the Technical Advisor to the Minister for Youth and Sports, Betty Krosbi Mensah; President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Kurt Okraku; and senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Sports.

The US delegation was led by Acting Ambassador Rolf Olson, while Acting Canadian High Commissioner Dennis Roussel headed the Canadian team.

Discussions focused on improving coordination and facilitating visa processes for Ghanaian supporters, officials, and team members traveling to North America for the tournament.

The parties also explored the possibility of special visa arrangements outside the regular application procedures to ease travel logistics for fans.

The meeting further noted that the recent reversal of US visa restrictions, which previously limited Ghanaian travelers to single-entry visas—was a welcome development.

The change now allows for multiple-entry visas, enabling fans to move freely between the three host nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

A similar engagement with officials from the Mexican Embassy has been scheduled for Friday.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
