Ghana and The Bahamas have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance labor mobility between the two nations, beginning with the recruitment of experienced Ghanaian teachers and nurses to serve in The Bahamas.

The agreement was formalized at a signing ceremony led by Ghana’s Minister of Special Initiative, Emmanuel Agyekum, alongside Mr. Nelson Ndebah Ndebugre from the Office of the President.

During the visit, Hon. Agyekum also held bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Philip Edward “Brave” Davis of The Bahamas to reaffirm both countries’ commitment to deepening cooperation.

Describing the MoU as a “new milestone of bilateral cooperation and labor mobility,” Hon. Agyekum said the agreement underscores Ghana’s growing reputation for exporting skilled expertise and reflects the confidence the international community continues to place in Ghanaian professionals.

“This initiative proves the trust our international partners have in the quality of Ghanaian educators and healthcare workers, who have consistently demonstrated excellence, discipline, and dedication,” Agyekum said.

The first phase of the agreement focuses on deploying qualified Ghanaian teachers and nurses to The Bahamas.

Officials say this marks the start of a broader framework that could extend cooperation into other sectors, including commerce, culture, tourism, and human capital exchange.

According to the Ministry, the partnership is designed as a mutually beneficial initiative.

It will offer Ghanaian professionals international exposure and career growth opportunities, while The Bahamas gains access to skilled educators and healthcare workers to strengthen its key sectors.

Hon. Agyekum emphasized that the welfare and fair treatment of recruited professionals remain a top priority.

“The Ministry, in collaboration with our partners in The Bahamas, will ensure that every recruitment process is transparent, and that the rights, dignity, and safety of participants are fully safeguarded,” he assured.

While details of the MoU remain confidential in line with diplomatic protocol, the Minister stated that its foundation rests on “cooperation, respect, and shared prosperity.”

The agreement aligns with Ghana’s broader vision of promoting labor mobility, skills export, and international partnerships that create opportunities for citizens and enhance the country’s global presence.

“This ceremony marks the dawn of a prosperous future one that builds bridges of opportunity between our peoples, cultures, and shared aspirations,” Agyekum concluded. “Let us continue to ensure that Ghanaian talent is recognized and rewarded across the world as a force for global progress.”
