A heated social media exchange has erupted within New Patriotic Party (NPP) circles following a statement by the Asante Youth Association (AYA) condemning Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe Abronye over his alleged verbal attack on former Minister of Health, Dr. Richard Anane.
In a strongly worded Facebook post, an NPP sympathizer — whose name was not immediately disclosed — lashed out at the AYA, accusing the group of meddling in internal party matters and misrepresenting the interests of Asante youth for political purposes.
The post, which has since attracted significant engagement online, criticized the association for issuing a statement defending Dr. Anane, who had recently clashed with Abronye following reports that the Bono Regional Chairman had disrespected former President John Agyekum Kufuor during a closed-door meeting.
“Someone should tell these people to stop misusing the name ‘Asante.’ What business does the Asante Youth Association have involving itself in internal NPP issues?” the post read.
The author further alleged that the group’s leadership consisted of “disappointed Alan supporters hiding behind the Asante Youth banner” — a reference to former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, who resigned from the NPP to form the Movement for Change ahead of the 2024 elections.
The comments came in response to a statement by the AYA, which condemned Abronye’s remarks about Dr. Anane’s professional conduct.
The association described the Bono Regional Chairman’s language as “unwarranted, disrespectful, and damaging to the integrity of a respected medical professional and senior party figure.”
The AYA urged the NPP’s national leadership to take disciplinary action against Abronye to preserve party unity and uphold respect for its elders.
However, the social media critic argued that such interventions from regional or ethnic-based youth groups risk deepening divisions within the party.
“The Asante Youth Association should not turn itself into a political pressure group within the NPP,” the poster wrote. “If there are grievances, they should be addressed through party structures.”

Tensions within the NPP have intensified in recent weeks following reports of a misunderstanding between Abronye DC and former President Kufuor during an internal meeting in Kumasi.
While the party’s Acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Butey, has dismissed reports of outright disrespect, the controversy has fueled a series of public statements from party factions, with some rallying behind Dr. Anane and others defending Abronye.
The latest social media backlash reflects the deepening polarization within the party’s grassroots as internal disagreements spill over into public discourse — particularly on platforms such as Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).
As of press time, the Asante Youth Association had not officially responded to the social media criticism.
