Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Adjei, has filed a defamation suit against journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Daybreak Newspaper, Prince Prah, over publications he says have gravely damaged his reputation.
The writ, filed at the High Court in Accra, stems from two front-page stories published on November 4 and November 11, 2025, with the headlines “Is Eric Adjei in Charge of NEIP?” and “Coming Up: Visa Racketeering Scandal Hits NEIP.” Both publications featured Mr. Adjei’s photograph and identified him as CEO of NEIP.
According to the statement of claim, Mr. Adjei argues that the articles were published “falsely and maliciously,” and were intended to portray him as being involved in visa racketeering, abusing his office, and engaging in corrupt conduct. He maintains that the allegations have no factual basis and were designed to injure his reputation.
The plaintiff states that the publications caused widespread public ridicule, damaged his professional standing, and created doubts among colleagues, development partners and the general public about his integrity.
Mr. Adjei further contends that the editor refused to retract the stories despite a demand letter issued by his lawyers on November 11, 2025, asking for the publications to be pulled down and an apology issued.
He is therefore asking the court for several reliefs, including:
- A declaration that the publications are defamatory
- An order directing the defendant to remove all offending content from print, online and social media platforms
- A full and unqualified retraction and apology with the same prominence as the original publications
- A perpetual injunction restraining the defendant from publishing similar defamatory material
- An undertaking from the defendant to desist from such publications
- General damages of GH¢5 million for defamation
- Aggravated and exemplary damages
- Legal costs and interest on any monetary award
The case was filed by his lawyers, Mettle-Nunoo, Quartey & Partners. The defendant, Prince Prah, has eight days from the date of service to enter an appearance in court.
