President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Abuja to participate in the 68th Ordinary Summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Nigeria’s Presidential Villa.
The summit will convene the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government and feature a special debate on the future of the regional block.
Leaders are expected to deliberate on key priorities, including political stability, regional security, and economic integration.
President Mahama is scheduled to take part in a closed-door session focused on the strategic direction of the Community, as well as discussions on regional peace and security challenges.
Key items on the summit agenda include pronouncements on the future of ECOWAS, the presentation of the 2025 Annual Report on the State of the Community, and briefings on regional security developments, ongoing mediation efforts, and the political transition in Guinea.
Leaders will also review the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS), a cornerstone of the bloc’s economic integration agenda.
The summit is expected to conclude with the adoption of a final communiqué outlining decisions and policy directions, followed by a joint press conference by ECOWAS leaders.
