The North East Regional Minister, Hon. Ibrahim Tia, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to peace, inclusion and accelerated development in the region, as he led a high-level town hall engagement with the people of Yunyoo Constituency.
The meeting, held with the Member of Parliament for Yunyoo, Hon. Sulemana Alhassan, and the District Chief Executive for Yunyoo/Nasuan, brought together grassroots party members, traditional authorities, council of elders and constituency executives, in what observers describe as another demonstration of the Regional Minister’s tireless efforts to unify communities and drive development across the North East Region.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Ibrahim Tia said the engagement formed part of government’s broader Reset Agenda, promised by President John Dramani Mahama, and being implemented through the Big Push programme.
“Since assuming office, our focus has been to reset governance, deepen engagement with the people and fast-track development across the region. The Big Push projects in Yunyoo are not isolated interventions; they are part of President Mahama’s firm promise to leave no community behind,” he stated.
Major Development Projects Highlighted
The Regional Minister outlined several key infrastructure and social development projects currently underway or planned for the Yunyoo/Nasuan area, describing them as clear evidence of government’s commitment to inclusive growth.
Among them is the Big Push Road Project, stretching from the Eastern Corridor through Gbintiri, Yunyoo and onward to Nakpanduri, expected to significantly improve mobility, trade and security in the area.
Other priority interventions outlined by the Regional Minister are the Big Push Road Project linking the Eastern Corridor through Gbintiri, Yunyoo and onward to Nakpanduri; the construction of an administration block and a 12-unit classroom block at Nasuan Senior High School; the establishment of a Farmer Service Centre in the Yunyoo District to serve Yunyoo/Nasuan as well as the neighbouring districts of Bunkpurugu and Chereponi; the construction of a CHPS compound to expand access to primary healthcare; and plans to resume work on the long-abandoned Namangu E-Block structure.
According to Hon. Tia, these projects are expected to create jobs, empower farmers and youth, and stimulate local economic growth.
“These interventions are guided by the shared vision of His Excellency the President and the aspirations of the people. They are designed to empower our youth, strengthen education and health delivery, and unlock the economic potential of this constituency,” he noted.
Peace as Foundation for Development
Beyond infrastructure, the Regional Minister used the platform to strongly emphasize peacebuilding, describing it as the bedrock of sustainable development in the North East Region.
“Peace is not optional; it is the foundation upon which development stands. Without peace, progress is impossible. We all witnessed the consequences of instability in the early days of our administration, and that lesson must never be forgotten,” Hon. Tia stressed.
He urged residents to continue embracing dialogue, tolerance and cooperation, assuring them that the regional administration will remain proactive and present on the ground to address grievances before they escalate.
Grassroots Engagement Applauded
Participants at the town hall openly shared concerns and expectations, which were addressed in what officials described as an atmosphere of mutual respect and constructive dialogue – a hallmark of Hon. Ibrahim Tia’s leadership approach since taking office.
Political observers say the engagement further underscores the Regional Minister’s hands-on, grassroots-driven style, positioning him as a key figure in ensuring peace, unity and steady development across the North East Region under the Mahama administration.
