Three senior students at Nkenkenso Senior High School in Ashanti Region are at the centre of an investigation after their housemaster was accused of invoking curses on them over allegations of gossip.
The teacher, identified by local officials as Mr Akwasi Opoku, is alleged to have performed rituals against the students after they discussed claims linking him to the death of a colleague in a past motor accident.
Sources at the school and within the Offinso North District Education Office told the Kumasi Mail that the incident has created tension on campus, with some students reportedly fearful in the weeks since it occurred.
According to the sources, the three students were confronted after they were overheard discussing suspicions about Mr Opoku’s alleged involvement in a fatal accident involving another teacher. Following the confrontation, he is said to have pronounced curses on them.
An official at the district education office, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to comment publicly, confirmed that the matter had been reported and that attempts had been made to resolve it.
“Indeed the teacher is alleged to have invoked curses on the students. Efforts to resolve the matter have so far not been successful,” the official said.
Local reports allege that Mr Opoku’s mother, described by some residents as a traditional priestess, performed rituals in connection with the incident. Kumasi Mail has not independently verified those claims.
It is also alleged that the teacher demanded GH¢1,000 from each student to reverse the curse. These claims have not been publicly addressed by the teacher.
School authorities, including the headmaster, and district education officials are said to have intervened, but the dispute remains unresolved. The case is expected to be referred to the regional education directorate for further action.
The Ghana Education Service has not yet issued a public statement on the matter.
