A labour dispute between management of Lancaster Hotel and its workers has been fully resolved, bringing an end to tensions that had threatened to escalate into industrial action.
The resolution follows days of unrest led by the Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance Workers (UNICOF), which had initiated a symbolic red-flag demonstration on April 21 over concerns related to salary restructuring and working conditions. The union had warned of a possible sit-down strike if the issues remained unresolved.
In a joint development, management of Lancaster Hotel, Global Hotels Company (GLAHCO), and UNICOF have now reached an agreement addressing all outstanding concerns. Both parties confirmed that the issues, including employee grading and conditions of service, have been settled amicably.
Sources close to the negotiations indicated that constructive dialogue between the parties led to the breakthrough, with commitments made to implement agreed adjustments within a mutually accepted framework.
As part of the resolution, the hotel has resumed normal operations and is open to guests, clients, and all stakeholders. Workers have also returned to their duties following assurances that their concerns have been addressed.
The dispute had earlier been referred to the National Labour Commission after initial attempts at engagement between the union and management stalled. However, renewed discussions in recent days paved the way for a final settlement.
UNICOF has welcomed the outcome, urging continued cooperation between staff and management to maintain industrial harmony. Management of Lancaster Hotel also expressed appreciation to employees for their patience and reaffirmed its commitment to improved communication and staff welfare.
