The Eastern Regional House of Chiefs has commended President John Dramani Mahama for what they described as the relative stability of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar, saying the achievement reflects fiscal discipline and sound economic leadership.
Speaking at a Town Hall Meeting in Koforidua as part of President Mahama’s two -Day Resseting Ghana tour of the Eastern Rehion, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, Vice President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs said the steadiness of the local currency in the face of global economic uncertainty had not gone unnoticed by traditional leaders and citizens.
“The relative stability of the cedi against the dollar, in these deeply uncertain global times, is no small feat. It did not happen by accident. It signals discipline, fiscal discipline — and markets, traders, and ordinary families all respect and benefit from discipline,” The House of Chiefs stated.
According to the chiefs, the gains in currency stability have brought confidence to businesses, traders, and households, while reinforcing trust in the government’s economic direction.
The Eastern Regional House of Chiefs noted that traditional authorities in the Eastern Region are pleased with the progress made so far and expressed gratitude for what they see as deliberate measures aimed at stabilizing the economy.
The House further commended the President’s broader leadership approach, describing it as one marked by clarity, direction, and results.
The chiefs said in a short period, the administration has demonstrated a steady hand in governance, earning the respect of those who closely monitor the country’s trajectory.
While applauding the economic strides, the chiefs also urged government to ensure that the Eastern Region benefits significantly from national development initiatives, particularly under the “Big Push” road agenda.
The stressed that improved infrastructure, industrial investment, and job creation remain essential to sustaining economic gains and ensuring long-term prosperity for the region.
The Eastern Regional House of Chiefs pledged support for the government while calling for deeper collaboration in agriculture, youth employment, and regional development.
