The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has successfully resolved disputes surrounding the nomination of a new chief for the vacant male stool in the Berekum Traditional Area, paving the way for the enstoolment process to begin.
The resolution was reached under the supervision of the Asantehene following disagreements among some kingmakers during the nomination process.
According to details from the mediation, some kingmakers initially failed to attend the nomination meeting, citing reasons including travel commitments, short notice and concerns about the atmosphere surrounding the process.
Grievances were also raised over the handling of royal eligibility by the Queen Mother.

In response, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II addressed the concerns raised by all parties and expanded the list of nominees to four in an effort to ensure fairness and inclusiveness in the selection process.
Following consultations, the Queen selected Kofi Asante from among the nominees as the preferred candidate for the stool.

The kingmakers who were absent from the earlier meeting later affirmed that they had no objections to the choice, after which the Asantehene directed that the enstoolment process should proceed.
During the meeting, Otumfuo advised the nominee to remain humble and urged supporters of unsuccessful candidates to exercise patience and respect the traditional process.
He reminded all parties that the stool could only be occupied by one person at a time and stressed the need for unity within the traditional area.
The Asantehene further stated that the process had produced no winners or losers, but rather restored peace and harmony in Berekum.

He condemned attempts to undermine the traditions and customs of Berekum and warned against acts of insubordination after the installation of the new chief.
The mediation concluded with the smoking of the peace pipe, settlement of grievances and a collective show of support for the nominee, signaling a return to unity in the Berekum Traditional Area.
