At least 12 people have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident involving a commercial mini-bus and a trailer at Nkenkensu in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region.
The accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon on the Kumasi-Techiman highway when the commercial passenger vehicle, travelling from Kumasi to Techiman, collided head-on with an oncoming trailer heading towards Kumasi.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the mini-bus reportedly attempted to overtake another vehicle but veered into the lane of the approaching trailer, resulting in the fatal crash.

Medical personnel at the Nkenkensu Government Hospital confirmed that 12 passengers were pronounced dead on arrival, while two survivors sustained critical injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
An eyewitness Eric Twumasi Frimpong told Kumasi Mail that the accident happened around 2:00 p.m., but emergency response efforts were delayed.

“It took more than an hour before an ambulance arrived to transport the injured victims to the hospital,” he said.
The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the Nkenkensu Government Hospital morgue for preservation and identification.
The incident adds to growing concerns over road safety and reckless overtaking on major highways across the country.
