For decades, Ghanaians have known Daniel McKorley as the bold entrepreneur who transformed a modest business venture into one of the country’s most diversified conglomerates. In a heartfelt Facebook post accompanied by a video showing him presenting Abigail with a bouquet of flowers at their home, Mr. McKorley revealed that the most important decision of his career had nothing to do with business.
“I’m often asked what the most important career decision I have ever made is. And, without hesitation, my answer, always, is ‘marrying my wife,'” he wrote.
For many entrepreneurs, career-defining moments are often associated with major investments, acquisitions or breakthrough business deals. For Mr. McKorley, however, the defining moment came long before the McDan Group became a household name.
His tribute offered a rare glimpse into the private life behind one of Ghana’s most recognisable business brands.
“This is not a cliché answer,” he explained. “Everything I’ve built, trust me, I’ve built because of her.”
Those words carry particular weight considering Mr. McKorley’s own journey.

Mr. McKorley said while the public applauds his business achievements, it rarely sees the sacrifices Madam Abigail makes in managing their home and providing the stability that allows him to focus on growing his companies.
“Without her, I wouldn’t have the mental space to build anything at all because she’s the one who keeps me grounded,” he noted. “Her unseen work is what makes my seen work possible.”
His message concluded with a simple but profound gesture. The bouquet of flowers presented in the video, he explained, was a small token of appreciation for a woman he believes deserves far greater recognition.
“This bouquet of flowers is my little way of saying ‘thank you,’ because without her, I wouldn’t be half the Daniel McKorley you see today.”
