The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Ashanti Regional Office, has commended the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ashanti Sub-Transmission Region, for its swift response and restoration of power following a major electrical fault that disrupted supply to several communities in Kumasi and surrounding areas.
The commendation was contained in a letter signed by the Ashanti Regional Manager of PURC, Edward Boduah Kingston, and addressed to the General Manager of ECG Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Ing. Kofi Apau Ohenese.
The Commission praised ECG management and staff for their dedication, professionalism and commitment to maintaining reliable electricity supply to consumers.
According to PURC, the fault occurred at the Esereso High Tension facility at about 5:46 p.m. on August 6, 2026, after a broken connection on the KAASE2 overhead interconnector resulted in electrical arcing and interrupted power supply.
Despite the incident occurring after normal working hours, the ECG Line Maintenance team mobilised promptly to address the fault.
PURC said the team worked under challenging conditions, including using torchlight, to repair the damaged connection and restore electricity supply.
“The determination of the team to work under challenging conditions and restore supply as quickly as possible reflects ECG’s commitment to serving consumers under all circumstances,” the Commission stated.
The Commission said the team’s response demonstrated the importance of ECG’s technical personnel in maintaining network reliability and minimising the impact of power outages on consumers.
ECG management praises technical team
In response to the commendation, Ing. Kofi Apau Ohenese praised the engineers and technicians who participated in the restoration exercise for their sense of duty and commitment.
He said the team’s efforts demonstrated ECG’s commitment to maintaining the reliability of the electricity network while protecting the interests of consumers.
The recognition from PURC highlights the critical role played by ECG’s technical teams in responding to faults, particularly outside normal working hours, and restoring power within the shortest possible time.
It is also expected to strengthen public confidence in the efforts of ECG personnel to improve service reliability and respond promptly to disruptions in power supply.
