Chief of Staff Dr. Julius Debrah has called for stronger collective action to improve sanitation and environmental sustainability in Ghana, stressing that a cleaner country is a necessity rather than a luxury.
Dr. Debrah made the call in a Facebook post after participating in the Ghana Sanitation and Clean Environment Conference, held under the theme, “Towards a Clean Ghana: Collective Action for Sustainable Cities, Responsible Production and Climate Resilience.”
He said the conference provided an important platform for stakeholders to discuss sanitation, environmental sustainability, climate resilience and the shared responsibility of building a healthier and more sustainable Ghana.
According to the Chief of Staff, government has a critical role to play through investment, enforcement and accountability, but policies alone cannot address the country’s sanitation challenges.
He said citizens must also take responsibility by avoiding littering, while businesses must embrace responsible production and institutions must enforce environmental standards.
Dr. Debrah identified clean drains, safe sanitation facilities, protection of water bodies, restoration of forests and responsible waste management as key areas requiring sustained attention.
He cautioned that decisions being made today would have long-term consequences for future generations.
“Cleanliness must become a daily habit, not a monthly ceremony,” he said, urging Ghanaians to adopt greater discipline and responsibility towards the environment.
He called on citizens and institutions to choose discipline over indiscriminate disposal of waste, responsibility over indifference and action over excuses.
Dr. Debrah expressed optimism that a cleaner and healthier Ghana could be achieved through collective effort.
“A cleaner Ghana is possible. A healthier Ghana is necessary. And together, by the grace of God, we will build it,” he said.
