A group calling itself Concerned Ghanaian Citizens has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to consider leading the country beyond 2028, citing what it describes as significant achievements under his Reset Agenda.
At a press conference held at Asamankese in the Eastern Region on Tuesday September1,2026, the group said it was speaking not on behalf of any political party but for what it described as millions of ordinary Ghanaians calling for continuity.
The group made up of some traditional rulers ,muslim leadership,farmers ,traders among others believed the Mahama administration had transformed its campaign promises into tangible results within less than two years in office.
“We have gathered here today not on behalf of any political party, but on behalf of millions of ordinary Ghanaian citizens who are crying for continuity,” the group stated.
“We are here to make a humble and passionate appeal to His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, to listen to the voice of the people and consider leading Ghana beyond 2028.”
The group argued that the government’s Reset Agenda had recorded progress in the areas of economic management, taxation, governance, job creation, social protection, infrastructure and environmental protection.
According to the statement, the administration had fulfilled several commitments under the President’s 120-Day Social Contract with Ghanaians, while others were still being implemented.
On the economy, the group credited the government with helping to stabilise inflation and strengthen the Ghana cedi, while also restoring business confidence and advancing Ghana’s debt restructuring efforts.
It also praised the government for abolishing taxes including the Electronic Levy, Betting Tax and Emissions Levy, describing the measures as relief for businesses, young people and mobile money users.
The concerned citizens further commended President Mahama for reducing the number of government ministries and appointing what they described as one of the leanest administrations under the Fourth Republic.
The statement also highlighted initiatives including the One Million Coders Programme, the Adwumawura Job Creation Programme, Mahama Cares, support for the Women’s Development Bank, free tertiary education for persons with disabilities and the provision of free sanitary pads for schoolgirls.
On infrastructure, the group pointed to the government’s Big Push initiative, road rehabilitation projects, rural electrification and environmental programmes such as the Tree for Life and Blue Water Initiative.
The group maintained that the gains being recorded under the Reset Agenda required continuity beyond the constitutionally permitted two terms.
“Ghanaians are saying two terms are not enough to finish the resetting. The foundation has been laid in 2025. The architecture must be completed,” the statement said.
“The market woman, the okada rider, the young coder and the farmer – they are all asking for continuity.”
The group therefore appealed to President Mahama to consider what it described as the growing public call for a third term in order to consolidate the progress it believes has been made.
Currently, Ghana’s 1992 Constitution limits a person who has served two terms as President to further election to the office, meaning any move to allow a third presidential term would require constitutional amendment and referendum.
President John Mahama has recently stated emphatically that he is not interested in serving a third term.
“The people of Ghana gave me a mandate for one term and I am working hard to meet the promises I made them,” he said.
