Alois K.K. Mohl, a former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund (SIF), has formally declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Nandom Constituency when nominations open.
Making the declaration in Nandom on Thursday, Mr. Mohl said he was offering himself to lead the party because he believed the NPP needed leadership capable of listening to its members, taking action and delivering results.
“I am here today because I believe we need a leader who listens, acts, and delivers real results,” he told party supporters and delegates.
He said the NPP in Nandom was currently in a state of “frightening” disunity but expressed confidence that the party could overcome its internal challenges and reclaim the parliamentary seat it lost in the 2024 elections.
According to Mr. Mohl, the party’s history of resilience demonstrated that it could recover from difficult periods if it provided the right leadership.
He said his objective was to help unite the NPP, win back the Nandom seat in the 2028 elections and contribute to a victory for the party’s 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“Getting the seat back is possible. Change in leadership is what is needed, and I am most suitable for the times,” he said.
‘Leadership is cause’
Mr. Mohl based his case for the parliamentary candidacy on what he described as the need for a change in leadership, arguing that the party’s internal difficulties were at the root of its electoral setback.
“I subscribe to the time tested leadership maxim that; Leadership is cause; All other is effect,” he said.
He alleged that cracks within the Nandom NPP became apparent after the 2012 elections but were not adequately addressed, eventually contributing to the party’s defeat in 2024.
He said the party was now “paying the price” for failing to resolve disagreements when they first emerged.
Mr. Mohl said his own experience of political setbacks within the NPP had prepared him to lead a reconciliation process.
He alleged that he had been accused of campaigning against the party’s parliamentary candidate in 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024, but that he was never brought before the party’s disciplinary committee as required by the party’s constitution.
He further alleged that the accusations contributed to the termination of his appointment as Deputy CEO of the SIF.
Mr. Mohl also revisited his disqualification from the NPP’s parliamentary primary process, describing the action as based on “trumped up charges”. He said the NPP’s National Third Vice Chairman, Chairman Buga, had subsequently apologised to him over what he described as an illegality.
“I have since accepted the apology and moved on,” he said.
He said his decision to remain committed to the party despite what he described as humiliation, false accusations and breaches of trust demonstrated his capacity to put the party ahead of personal interests.
Experience, Education
Mr. Mohl brings extensive public-service and political experience to the contest.
His political profile states that he has worked in Ghana’s public service for more than 30 years and has served in senior roles in social development, child protection, training and development, monitoring and evaluation and public administration. He rose to the position of Director in the public service before moving into frontline politics.
His last public-sector appointment was as Deputy CEO of the Social Investment Fund, where he says he facilitated the provision of a six-unit classroom block at Dondometeng and secured a modern electrical workshop for Nandom Technical Institute.
Academically, Mr. Mohl holds an MBA in Human Resource Management from Central University, an MSc in Defence and International Politics from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, an LL.B from Mountcrest University College, a BA in Political Science with Sociology from the University of Ghana and a Certificate in Social Work from the School of Social Work, Osu.
His profile also lists several senior positions he has held within the NPP, including roles on national campaign and disciplinary structures, the National Council, the National Executive Committee, the Upper West Regional campaign team and the constituency leadership of the then Lawra/Nandom Constituency.
Mr. Mohl said this combination of professional experience, political exposure and national connections made him capable of leading the NPP’s efforts to regain the Nandom seat.
He said he was not entering the contest merely because he wanted to become a parliamentary candidate, but because he believed he could provide the leadership required to rebuild the party.
“It is possible,” he declared.
