The Chief of Aburokyire, a farming community in the Offinso area of the Ashanti Region, Nana Osei Bonsu, has died after sustaining severe machete wounds in an attack allegedly linked to the killing of a caretaker farmer.
Nana Osei Bonsu was receiving treatment at St. Patrick Hospital in Offinso after the attack but succumbed to his injuries.
The incident reportedly followed the alleged murder of the chief’s caretaker farmer, identified as Osei Kwabena, on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
The suspect, identified only as Awineme, is said to have attacked and killed the farmer while he was in a bush.
According report, the suspect later returned to the community covered in blood and allegedly told residents that he had killed the farmer.
When Nana Osei Bonsu confronted him to find out what had happened, the suspect allegedly turned on the chief and attacked him with a machete.
The chief sustained serious injuries and was subsequently rushed to St. Patrick Hospital for treatment.
The suspect reportedly attempted to attack another person following the incident, prompting some youth in the community to intervene.
The resident said the youth overpowered and beat the suspect with sticks after attempts to restrain him allegedly failed.
The suspect subsequently died from the injuries he sustained.
The bodies of Nana Osei Bonsu, Osei Kwabena and the suspect have since been deposited at the morgue.
Police have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the three deaths.
