ECG power queens donate GH¢35,000 medical supplies to KATH Paediatric Oncology Unit
The ECG Power Queens of the Ashanti South and Ashanti Sub-Transmission Regions have donated medical supplies and other essential items valued at GH¢35,000 to the Paediatric Oncology Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
The donation, made with support from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) regional management, includes medicines and critical transfusion equipment intended to support the treatment and care of children battling cancer.
The intervention followed an earlier visit by members of the Power Queens to the oncology unit, where they assessed the facility’s most pressing needs. During the visit, the team learnt that the unit had only one transfusion device serving the entire facility.
The situation prompted the association to prioritise the provision of additional transfusion equipment, alongside medicines and other essential medical supplies.
Paediatric Oncologist at KATH, Dr Yvonne Addo, expressed appreciation for the gesture and appealed for sustained support from individuals, organisations and institutions to help address the needs of children receiving cancer treatment.
She also called for continued assistance to ease the financial burden on families whose children are undergoing treatment for cancer.
The donation forms part of activities marking the 38th anniversary of the ECG Power Queens and reflects the association’s commitment to community support and social responsibility.
In a related initiative, the Ashanti United Power Queens and GSI executives donated mattresses, beds, a vacuum cleaner, kettle, plastic tables and chairs, woollen carpets and mats to the children’s bay at the Adum ECG facility.
The items are expected to improve the comfort and general environment for children who use the facility.
