The State Housing Company Limited (SHC) is pursuing a series of operational reforms aimed at delivering 3,000 housing units by the end of 2029 while strengthening its financial position and expanding its revenue base.
The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to improve the company’s operational efficiency, enhance its public image and increase its contribution to Ghana’s housing sector.
Managing Director of SHC, John Sherrif Bawah, outlined the plans during a working visit by the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Ahmed Ibrahim, on Thursday, October 22.
He said the company was developing a clear pipeline of projects to ensure the delivery of the targeted housing units within the stipulated period.
Mr Bawah explained that the strategy would include an urban redevelopment pilot project, efforts to meet the company’s financial commitments to the government and initiatives to strengthen the State Housing brand.
“We have a target of 3,000 units with a very clear and strong pipeline for delivering on these units within the time we have given by 2029,” he said.
He added that the company was exploring ways to diversify its revenue sources, particularly through the expansion of estate management services and other income-generating activities.
According to him, the growing public attention surrounding the company could also present an opportunity to improve its visibility and strengthen its position in the housing market.
Mr Bawah further disclosed that management had begun measures to build the company’s operational capacity, including investments in human resources and the acquisition of new assets to support its activities.
“Some of the things that we’ve done so far include retooling the human capital. Very soon you’ll see some new assets that we are bringing in to help the operations,” he said.
The planned reforms are expected to support the company’s housing delivery ambitions while improving its ability to manage existing estates and generate additional revenue.
However, achieving the 3,000-unit target by 2029 will depend on the effective implementation of the proposed projects and the company’s ability to sustain the operational improvements outlined by management.
