Manhyia South: 1k voters to be expunged from voters register will still vote — NDC maintains
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has debunked claims that 1,000 NDC voters whose names were ordered to be expunged from the electoral register in the Manhyia South are to be disenfranchised in the upcoming December 7 presidential and parlaimmentary elections.

NDC’s Elections Committee Chairman in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Nuru Hamidan, described claims as “false and should be disregarded.”

“My attention has been drawn to numerous publications made by the lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, NPP parliamentary candidate for Manhyia south to the effect 1,000 NDC voters have been expunged from the electoral commission register and for that matter they cannot vote in the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections.

“This is false and should be disregarded.”, the NDC leading member stated

A Kumasi Magistrate Court in a ruling, nullified over 1,000 fraudulent voter transfers to the Manhyia South Constituency.

This is after Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Manhyia South, challenged the transfers, alleging they were orchestrated by the opposition NDC.

However, Nuru Hamidan maintains the ruling does not change anything so far as the December 7 polls are concerned.

The NDC guru posted on his Facebook:

STOP THE LIES TO COVER YOUR FAILURE LAWYER NANA AGYEI BAFFOUR AWUAH (NPP PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE FOR MANHYIA SOUTH)

My attention has been drawn to numerous publications made by the lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, NPP parliamentary candidate for Manhyia south to the effect 1,000 NDC voters have been expunged from the electoral commission register and for that matter they cannot vote in the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections. This is false and should be disregarded.

The facts of the matter are:

  1. The NPP under the leadership Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah (NPP parliamentary candidate for Manhyia South) raised objections to 700 registered voters who transferred their votes to Manhyia South Constituency individually. It is not true that they are all NDC members or sympathizers.
  2. The matter went court presided over by her lordship Deborah Gyaawa Donkor and ruling was giving yesterday 24th September 2024.
  3. The claim of the NPP was that all the 700 registered voters should be disqualified and their names removed from the voters register.
  4. The judge ruled that 580 registered voter were served but could not appear before the court their names should be reversed to their previous constituencies. The 120 registered voters who could not be served by the court have their name maintain in Manhyia South voters register.
  5. In effect, all the 700 registered voters objected by the NPP led by lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah parliamentary candidate for Manhyia south will vote in the December 7th elections contrary to what the NPP wanted from the court.
  6. The implication is that all 700 registered voters will not vote for the NPP for taking them through this ordeal. The action lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah will reduce Dr Bawumia’s votes by 700 votes.
