The National Chief Imam, Shaikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has congratulated President-elect John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following his victory in the recent presidential election.
Mahama secured 56.55% of the vote, defeating NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who received 41.61%.
The NDC also secured a parliamentary majority, with over 170 seats, further strengthening Mahama’s mandate.
In a statement on December 10, the Chief Imam praised Mahama’s resilience and dedication to public service, expressing hope that his leadership would enhance constitutional rule and good governance in Ghana.
The Chief Imam also commended Dr. Bawumia for accepting the election results in good faith, highlighting his maturity and patriotism.
He thanked Ghanaians for ensuring the peaceful conduct of the elections but expressed concern over isolated incidents of violence, offering condolences to the victims and calling for an end to post-election unrest.
