The North East Regional Minister Ibrahim Tia has urged the youth of the region to abandon political insults and violence, warning that peace remains the foundation for development, as he marked one year in office against the backdrop of persistent security challenges.
“I urge our teeming youth to desist from politics of insults and violence. Let us instead engage in constructive criticism that helps shape our collective progress, for peace is the foundation upon which sustainable development is built,” Hon. Tia said in a Facebook post on Wednesday, February 4.
The minister acknowledged that the North East Region has over the past year continued to grapple with security challenges, many of which, he noted, predate his administration. According to him, the situation has required security interventions that are sometimes disruptive to normal life and economic activity.
“As Regional Minister, I take full responsibility and assure the people that I am not relenting in my duties,” he said, adding that he continues to work closely with security agencies to maintain peace and stability across the region.
Despite the challenges, Hon. Tia said the region has witnessed notable developmental interventions under President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda. He cited progress in sectors including agriculture, education, health, road infrastructure, energy and social intervention programmes.
Reflecting on his first year in office, the minister described the period as demanding but reaffirmed his commitment to serve the people of the North East Region with dedication and integrity.
“The journey so far has not been an easy one, but I remain resolute, focused, and committed to delivering my best in service to the people of the region,” he said.
Hon. Tia is a public health finance and local government professional with expertise in systems management and public relations. He has extensive experience in public service, having worked with the National Health Insurance Scheme, where he rose from District Manager to Deputy Regional Manager at the Northern Regional Office of the National Health Insurance Authority.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information and Communication Technology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies, and a mini MBA in Project Management. Politically, he has served as the North East Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress since 2019.
The minister expressed gratitude to residents of the region for the support and encouragement he has received since assuming office, pledging to continue working to ensure steady growth and development across the North East Region.
