An audio recording allegedly involving a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region has sparked controversy.
The individual in the recording accuses a relative of former President John Dramani Mahama of plotting to assassinate Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, the NPP Bono Regional Chairman.
The audio, which has gone viral features an unidentified voice claiming that Abronye’s actions made life extremely difficult for President John Dramani Mahama during the NDC’s opposition years from 2016 to 2024.
According to the allegations, the assassination plot was orchestrated by a close relative of President Mahama, targeting Abronye for his outspoken criticism and alleged exposure of corruption within the previous NDC administration.
The voice in the audio urged Abronye to prioritize his safety and leave the Bono Region immediately.
“The NDC guru close to President Mahama has targeted the Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Abronye. If anyone knows Abronye’s whereabouts, they should inform him to leave the Bono Region as soon as possible for a safe hideout,” the speaker warned.
The individual also expressed fear that his source would be disappointed if the warning was ignored and any harm befell Abronye.
“My intel will be disappointed in me if anything unfortunate happens to Abronye. Let’s keep sharing the audio until it reaches him. The person planning to assassinate Abronye is a family member of John Mahama, and they intend to treat him like they once did to Nana Twene in Sunyani Abisim,” he alleged.
He linked the alleged assassination plot to Abronye’s criticism and “character assassination” of the former president during the NDC’s time in opposition.
“Abronye tormented President Mahama during the NDC’s opposition days. He exposed a lot of rot in his administration. My friend, who revealed this information to me, was visibly shaken. He admitted he had no direct access to Abronye to relay this information,” the voice added.
The speaker also mentioned sharing the information on NPP platforms to ensure that the message reached Abronye.
“I’m sending this message across all NPP platforms I’m part of. Abronye should leave the region within the shortest possible time. This plot against his life by the President’s family is nasty. I have done my part. I will not mention any names, but the message is simple: Abronye should leave immediately because he is the next target,” he concluded.
