The Ashanti Regional Caucus of Constituency Chairmen of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared its unwavering support for the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, following his conviction.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the caucus described the development as concerning but reaffirmed its confidence in Chairman Wontumi’s integrity, leadership and dedication to the party.
The statement, signed by the Chairman and Dean of the Constituency Chairmen Caucus, Kofi Acheampong, and the Secretary, Frederick Agyemang Mensah, praised Chairman Wontumi’s role in strengthening the NPP in its Ashanti Region stronghold.
“Chairman Wontumi has been the face of resilience, grassroots mobilization and unwavering commitment to the NPP in the Ashanti Region. Under his leadership, the party has remained formidable, united and victory-driven,” the statement said.
The caucus assured the regional chairman and his family of its full solidarity during what it described as a difficult period.
“Our support for Chairman Wontumi remains unshaken. We believe in his integrity, his service to the party, and his dedication to the people of Ashanti and Ghana,” the statement added.
The constituency chairmen also called on party supporters across the region to remain calm, law-abiding and united while the legal process continues.
According to the statement, the caucus has confidence in the NPP’s legal directorate and believes the party’s legal team will pursue all available legal options in the matter.
The group further expressed appreciation to party executives, Members of Parliament and grassroots supporters across the country for the solidarity shown to Chairman Wontumi following the court’s decision.
Describing the conviction as a test of the party’s unity, the caucus expressed optimism that the NPP would emerge stronger.
“Chairman Wontumi’s contributions to the growth and strength of the NPP in our stronghold cannot be erased by any single judgment. We remain resolute that truth and true justice will prevail; it is only a matter of time,” the statement concluded.
The statement was issued under the theme “Unity, Courage, Victory”, the party’s traditional rallying call, and reaffirmed the caucus’ commitment to standing behind its regional chairman throughout the legal process.
