Construction of a new multi-purpose sports facility at the Bolgatanga Sports Stadium is expected to begin before the end of 2026, with preparatory work set to move into the next phase in October.
The development follows a meeting between Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Donatus Atanga, and Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, to discuss the redevelopment of the existing stadium.
An inspection team is expected in the Upper East Region in the first week of October 2026 to assess the site and help advance plans for the project.
The proposed facility will feature a main football pitch and a separate training pitch, alongside athletics tracks, basketball and volleyball courts and a swimming pool.
It will also provide facilities for high jump and long jump, boxing and other indoor games, as well as conference rooms.
The redevelopment is expected to significantly expand the region’s capacity to host competitive sports, training activities and major sporting events.
Regional Minister Akamugri Donatus Atanga expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams for their commitment to improving sports infrastructure in the Upper East Region.
