Police in Kumasi have arrested a 48-year-old businessman, Francis Arthur, for the alleged murder of his longtime partner in a case being treated as domestic violence.
The victim, Sally Benson, a prominent beautician and owner of Sally’s Cosmetics Studio and African’s Special pub in Asokwa, is reported to have died following an alleged assault on April 14, 2026, at Ayigya-Maxima.

According to police accounts, Benson visited Arthur’s residence with a female companion after reportedly learning that another woman had been there earlier. Arthur was initially absent, but upon his return, a confrontation ensued between the couple, who had been in a relationship for more than a decade.
Investigators allege that the confrontation escalated into violence, during which Arthur is accused of repeatedly striking Benson until she collapsed. He subsequently transported her in her own vehicle to the KNUST Hospital, where medical staff pronounced her dead on arrival.
Arthur appeared before the Asokore Mampong District Court on Tuesday. Presiding Magistrate Hilda Esther Wryter ordered that he be remanded into custody. The case has been adjourned to May 8, 2026.
Family members of the deceased attended the court proceedings, including her father, Apostle Gabriel Oppong, who called for justice. He said a witness who accompanied Benson recounted that she was beaten until she collapsed before being rushed to the hospital.
“I want justice… the law must take its course,” Oppong said. Police say investigations into the incident are ongoing.
