The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has called on the government to protect, restore and properly manage Ghana’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs), saying the move would help create employment and generate revenue for the state.
The call was contained in a statement issued by the party on Monday, September 21, 2026, to mark the 117th anniversary of the birth of Ghana’s first President and CPP founder, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
The CPP said Nkrumah’s political philosophy was rooted in volunteerism and nationalism, which it described as central to his vision for Ghana and Africa.
The party expressed concern about the condition of some state-owned enterprises and factories, claiming that several had been allowed to deteriorate while others had been sold to individuals it described as politically exposed persons and cronies since Nkrumah’s overthrow.
The CPP also expressed opposition to what it described as an agenda to privatise the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
“It is illogical to believe that a company, factory and state-owned enterprise cannot be properly managed by over 30 million Ghanaians, but can be managed effectively by single individual(s),” the party said.
The CPP urged the government to restore, revamp and maintain state-owned enterprises and ensure that they are managed effectively.
According to the party, strengthening SOEs could provide employment opportunities for Ghana’s unemployed youth while contributing to government revenue.
The statement, signed by Osei Kofi Acquah, National Communications Director of the CPP, also called for the continued promotion of Nkrumah’s legacy, Pan-Africanism, nationalism and patriotism.
The party concluded its statement with a call for the preservation of what it described as the enduring legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and a reaffirmation of its commitment to Ghana and Pan-Africanism.
