The Minister of Education, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, has commended two young Ghanaian students for their remarkable inventions, showcasing the nation’s budding talent in innovation and technology.
In a Facebook post shared yesterday, October 1, 2024, Dr. Adutwum expressed his admiration after meeting a Class 5 student from Agyakwa, who developed a fully automated excavator powered by a hydraulic system. The young inventor’s creation, made entirely in Ghana, came to the Minister’s attention through social media.
“This is an extraordinary talent, and with the approval of the Gifted and Talented Programme by Cabinet, we can now ensure young talents like him receive the necessary support and resources to advance their education,” Dr. Adutwum said.
The boy’s mother was also present during the meeting, where she reaffirmed her commitment to supporting her son’s journey. Dr. Adutwum used the opportunity to urge parents to nurture the innovative potential within their children, highlighting the importance of parental support in fostering creativity.
The Minister was equally impressed by a student from the Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC), who developed a water pollutant collector designed to clean Ghana’s water bodies.
Describing the invention as “timely and essential for the sustainability of our environment,” Dr. Adutwum praised the student’s ingenuity and commitment to addressing real-world challenges.
As the government continues to emphasize Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, the Minister reiterated the importance of equipping students with practical skills.
“The future is bright for Ghana, and it’s in our hands to nurture the geniuses of tomorrow,” he said.
These inventions demonstrate the potential of young Ghanaians to create solutions that address the country’s developmental challenges and underscore the importance of continued investment in education and innovation.
