The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, is undertaking a working tour of major electricity infrastructure projects in Kumasi today as part of efforts to improve power supply reliability and strengthen the national grid in the Ashanti Region.
The tour, scheduled for Friday, May 8, 2026, will focus on ongoing transformer replacement and upgrade works, as well as critical transmission and distribution projects being executed by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and GRIDCo.
Dr. Jinapor is expected to begin the inspection at the Ridge Substation in Kumasi, where engineers are carrying out transformer upgrade works aimed at enhancing power stability and reducing outages within the metropolis.
The Energy Minister will also inspect the Anwomaso–Boadi–Kaase sub-transmission line project being undertaken by Avensis. The project is expected to improve electricity distribution and support increasing demand in fast-growing communities across the region.
As part of the tour, Dr. Jinapor will visit facilities operated by AKSA and CENIT to familiarize himself with ongoing power generation support activities and assess their contribution to the national energy supply chain.
Another key stop on the tour will be the Anwomaso–Airport sub-transmission line project, where project officials are expected to brief the Minister on the progress of work and its anticipated impact on electricity delivery in Kumasi and surrounding areas.
Government says the inspection forms part of broader efforts to modernize power infrastructure, improve system reliability, and address growing electricity demand in rapidly expanding urban centres.
The working visit will conclude with a press briefing and a meeting with ECG district managers at the Airport Roundabout in Kumasi.
Officials say the Minister’s tour of ECG and GRIDCo transmission and distribution facilities is intended to provide first-hand information on ongoing interventions, including the replacement of aging transformers and other critical upgrades within the power sector.
