The Upper West Regional Hospital is set to commission its Expanded Dialysis Unit on Tuesday, August 4, following a final preparatory visit by officials of Sustainable Health Education and Interventions Limited (SHEILD) Ghana.
The delegation, led by SHEILD Ghana Board Director, Dr. Sylvia Annie, met with the hospital’s Core Management to review preparations for the commissioning and reaffirm the organisation’s partnership with the facility in expanding access to specialised healthcare.
Discussions focused on the successful implementation of the dialysis expansion project and explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration in improving healthcare delivery across the Upper West Region.
The delegation also toured the Expanded Dialysis Unit and inspected the venue for the commissioning ceremony to assess the hospital’s state of readiness.

Beyond preparations for the event, both parties identified additional areas requiring support to improve service delivery, with particular attention given to the hospital’s medical oxygen gas plant. The facility was described as critical infrastructure that requires investment to strengthen emergency, critical care and specialised health services.
SHEILD Ghana, a non-governmental organisation based in Accra, works to improve public health outcomes through health education, community-based interventions and strategic partnerships aimed at expanding access to quality healthcare services across the country.
The visit underscored the longstanding partnership between SHEILD Ghana and the Upper West Regional Hospital and reaffirmed their shared commitment to improving access to quality specialised healthcare for residents of the Upper West Region and beyond.
