In a shocking revelation, President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Lawyer Yaw Boafo has exposed warned some members seeking to lead the association engaging in bribery to secure votes to halt the practice.
A Call for Leadership by Example
As the nation approaches the general elections, Yaw Boafo in his address at the annual Ghana Bar Association (GBA) conference held at KNUST in Kumasi, he emphasized the need for the GBA to demonstrate leadership by example.
“How have we conducted ourselves, our campaign and our collective products leading into our election, simply put have we come to equity with clean hands? It’s rather unfortunate that our conduct of our campaign leads much to desire”.
Yaw Boafo stressed that the GBA’s credibility to speak truth to politicians hinges on its ability to lead by example.
“How do we show leadership in these times? It is the noise of silent, the power of our example. We can only look to the nation and acquired the legitimate to speak truth to politicians if our own example allows us to do so”, he noted.
Unsavory Campaign Tactics
The GBA President lamented that the campaign has been marred by partisan alignments, monetary inducements, and outlandish promises that contravene the GBA constitution.
He said “we here of partisan alignments, monetary inducement, victory post on WhatsApp platforms, outlandish promises that cannot be possible within the provisions of GBA constitution”.
The GBA President expressed concern that these unsavory matters have found their way into the mass media, tarnishing the reputation of the noble association.
A Warning Against Politicization
Lawyer Yaw Boafo cautioned that if the GBA adopts the same tactics as partisan politicians, it risks losing its voice.
“The GBA is a noble institution of learned persons and there is no place in the association such conduct which may be permissible in the realm of partisan politics.”
He then added “we loose our voice if we also behave like politicians, we must understand this basic principle”.
He reiterated that the GBA must lead by example, rather than following the practices of politicians.
“We must understand this basic principle the GBA LEAD the GBA does not follow”.
