The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has withdrawn its proposal to acquire approximately three acres of land belonging to the Department of Parks and Gardens at Cantonments in Accra for the construction of its permanent head office.
The withdrawal follows public backlash over the proposed arrangement, under which GoldBod would have acquired the land in exchange for constructing a new administrative head office and ancillary facilities for the Department of Parks and Gardens.
In a letter dated September 4, 2026, GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Samuel Gyamfi formally notified the Director-General of the Department of Parks and Gardens that the proposal had been withdrawn.
“We wish to formally withdraw the said proposal forthwith. Accordingly, the proposal contained in our letter of August 20, 2026 should be considered withdrawn, and the matter closed,” Mr Gyamfi said.
The original proposal, contained in a letter dated August 20, sought the allocation of approximately three acres of Parks and Gardens land at Cantonments for the construction of a permanent headquarters for GoldBod.
GoldBod had said it required the land to develop a purpose-built headquarters capable of accommodating its expanding administrative, technical, commercial, regulatory and operational functions.
Under the proposed barter arrangement, GoldBod would construct a new administrative head office for Parks and Gardens, together with other logistical and ancillary facilities to be mutually agreed by the two institutions.
The arrangement was presented as a way for both institutions to secure durable infrastructure while putting the land to strategic institutional use.
However, following the public reaction to the proposal, GoldBod has now abandoned the arrangement.
In the September 4 letter, Mr Gyamfi expressed appreciation to the Department of Parks and Gardens for its cooperation during discussions on the proposal.
“Please accept the assurances of our highest consideration,” he said.
