The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced a one-month extension to the deadline for transitioning to its new gold trading license regime.
Initially set for May 21, 2025, the deadline has now been extended to June 21, 2025, following multiple petitions from stakeholders.
In a press release issued today, GoldBod stated that individuals and entities holding licenses previously issued by the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) or the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources may continue to trade in gold with those licenses until the new deadline.
However, GoldBod emphasized that only holders of its new license will be legally permitted to purchase, sell, or deal in gold after June 21.
“The use of licenses issued by the defunct PMMC and/or the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources will be prohibited beyond this date,” the statement noted.
Violations will constitute offenses under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
Effective immediately, all export rights attached to licenses issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources are nullified.
GoldBod is now the sole corporate entity authorized to export small-scale gold from Ghana.
GoldBod encouraged interested parties to apply for the new license through its website,www.goldbod.gov.ghhttp://www.goldbod.gov.gh/. While the application process will remain open beyond the deadline, unlicensed individuals or entities will not be allowed to engage in gold trading activities after June 21.
The statement concluded with an appeal for public cooperation as the government seeks to maximize national benefits from Ghana’s gold resources in alignment with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama.
