The government has relaxed the curfew imposed on Hamile Township and its surrounding communities in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region, reducing the restriction period from 11 hours to six hours daily.
The revised curfew, which takes effect on Thursday, November 5, 2026, will run from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am, replacing the previous restriction from 6:00 pm to 5:00 am.
The Minister for the Interior, acting on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, announced the adjustment in a statement issued on Thursday.
The review gives residents an additional five hours of unrestricted movement daily as authorities continue efforts to restore calm in the troubled border community.
Government has urged chiefs, opinion leaders, youth and residents to exercise restraint and use non-violent means to channel their grievances in the interest of maintaining peace.
The curfew was initially imposed on November 3 following a deadly explosion involving officers of the Ghana Immigration Service and persons transporting suspected explosives through an unapproved border route.
The incident claimed three lives, according to the Lambussie District Chief Executive’s account, while the Member of Parliament for Lambussie, Prof. Titus Kofi Beyuo, has subsequently disclosed that 13 people, all males, sustained injuries during the explosion.
The incident triggered violent disturbances, with some youth burning car tyres and attempting to set ablaze structures and offices belonging to the Ghana Immigration Service.

Military personnel were deployed to the area following the disturbances, during which civilians also sustained gunshot injuries.
The unrest raised concerns about security and public order in the border community, prompting engagements involving traditional leaders, the District Assembly, the MP and security agencies.
The revised curfew comes amid efforts by local authorities and community leaders to address the grievances of residents and restore normal commercial and social activities.
Although the restriction period has been reduced, the curfew remains in force, with residents expected to comply with the revised hours.
