The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has highlighted a series of major infrastructure and development projects currently underway across several constituencies in the Ashanti Region, describing them as evidence of the government’s commitment to improving livelihoods and accelerating development.
Speaking after an engagement with constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Amoakohene said the meeting, held together with the Ashanti Regional Chairman and regional executives of the party, provided an opportunity to update grassroots leaders on ongoing government projects under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
The engagement brought together executives from Obuasi West, Offinso South, Atwima Nwabiagya North, Old Tafo and Bosomtwe constituencies.
According to the Regional Minister, Bosomtwe is benefiting from the rehabilitation of the Sewua, Feyiase and Prabon roads, while construction of the Sewua Regional Hospital is ongoing. He added that work on the Abidjan Nkwanta-Kuntanase Road has also been scheduled to commence.
Dr. Amoakohene said the education sector in Bosomtwe is receiving a boost through GETFund with the construction of two two-storey dormitory blocks for boys and girls at Bosomtwe Oyoko Community Senior High School, as well as a three-bedroom bungalow with an outhouse and a three-storey teachers’ accommodation.
In Old Tafo, he announced that construction of the Tafo town roads and the expansion of the Pankrono-Tafo-Suame urban road are expected to begin soon. Ongoing works include the Moro Market Road and the Boawene-Benkumhene Road.
He added that GETFund is also financing the construction of a multipurpose assembly hall at Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School, together with three separate two-storey, 12-unit classroom blocks for the Tafo Pankrono MA Cluster of Schools, St. Bernadette RC Cluster of Schools and Pentecostal Life MA School.
In Obuasi West, Dr. Amoakohene said the Kunka Junction project has been completed, while the Obuasi-Dunkwa, Obuasi-Mile 9 and Obuasi-Asokwa Junction roads have been included in the municipality’s 10-kilometre road allocation.
He further disclosed that road projects are also underway in Bekwai, including the Essienimpong-Kwaaso Road and the Anwia Nkwanta-Santasi Road, alongside additional town roads earmarked for construction.
For Offinso South, the Regional Minister said work is progressing on the Offinso town roads, the Outer Kumasi Ring Road and the Offinso-Barekese Road, with another 10 kilometres of town roads allocated for development.
In Atwima Nwabiagya North, he said work continues on the Barekese-Offinso Road and the Tabre-Abuakwa Dualisation Project. An additional 10 kilometres of roads have also been allocated to improve access to Adankwame, Barekese, Asamang, Asuofia and surrounding communities.
The constituency, he added, is also benefiting from GETFund-funded classroom projects at the Kuffour STEM School to strengthen science, technology and innovation education.
Beyond roads and educational infrastructure, Dr. Amoakohene said every Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly in the region is benefiting from the construction of 24-Hour Economy Centres, health facilities, classroom blocks and boreholes through the District Assemblies Common Fund.
He said the projects reflect the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, creating jobs, expanding access to quality education and healthcare, and promoting inclusive development across the Ashanti Region.
Dr. Amoakohene expressed appreciation to President Mahama for what he described as his visionary leadership and commitment to implementing the government’s Reset Agenda aimed at improving the lives of Ghanaians.
