The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Lambussie constituency in the Upper West Region of Ghana, Professor Titus Beyuo, has donated essential medical supplies and consumables valued at Gh¢55,000 to the Lambussie District Health Directorate.
The donation, made on Saturday, was in a bid to strengthen the ongoing efforts against the Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM) outbreak in Lambussie. It was also a timely intervention aimed at bolstering the resources available to frontline health workers in the district.
The donation included vital items such as 8,000 face masks, 40 thermometers, 100 vials of ceftriaxone, 100 spinal needles, 5 liters of alcohol-based hand sanitizers, and 2,000 pieces of hand gloves. These supplies are intended to address critical shortages in medical resources and ensure healthcare workers are better equipped to manage and contain the CSM outbreak.
According to Prof. Beyuo, “As your Member of Parliament, safeguarding the health of my constituents is not just a duty but a personal commitment.”
The outbreak has seen 11 suspected cases of CSM reported in the district, with one tragic death and another patient still undergoing treatment.
Prof. Beyuo emphasized the importance of swift medical intervention, urging constituents to seek help at the first sign of symptoms. He reassured the public that treatment and supplies are available at no cost, urging citizens to avoid delays in seeking care.
During the donation ceremony, the MP expressed his admiration for the resilience and dedication of the district’s healthcare workers, despite facing significant challenges such as shortages of spinal needles, lifesaving medications, and personal protective equipment.
“I commended the Lambussie Health Directorate and our frontline health workers for their tireless dedication and resilience,” said Prof. Beyuo.
He went on to acknowledge that the support for the health sector remains a cornerstone of his work in Parliament. “A healthy population is the foundation of progress,” he remarked.
Mr. Bin-eranaa Jerdu Nuhu, the Lambussie District Director of Health Service, expressed his deep appreciation for the timely donation, which he confirmed met some of the most urgent needs of the health sector.
“This donation is critical to our efforts in managing the outbreak effectively,” he said, also calling on other individuals and organizations to support the health service’s efforts in combating the disease.
In his message to the Lambussie community, Prof. Beyuo urged everyone to adopt preventive measures, particularly in the handling of the deceased, avoiding overcrowded gatherings, and seeking medical care immediately when symptoms arise.
