Private legal practitioner and leading New Patriotic Party (NPP) figure in the Nandom Constituency, Lawyer Sylvester Isang, has formally declared his intention to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Mr Isang made the declaration on Thursday, August 13, 2026, before chiefs, party executives, delegates, Nandome and other stakeholders, offering himself to serve as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Nandom.
Declaring his intention, Mr Isang said his decision was driven by his love for Nandom and his conviction that the constituency needs strong political representation to secure the development opportunities it deserves.
He said he was not seeking the parliamentary seat for personal aggrandisement or gain, but to serve the people and contribute to addressing the developmental challenges confronting the constituency.
“I believe that life is worth living when you touch your neighbour, especially the most vulnerable in society,” he said.
Mr Isang said politics had become central to the allocation of development resources in Ghana and argued that Nandom needed a representative capable of making a strong case for the constituency.
“If we don’t have a representative who can make a strong case for our fair share of the national cake for our people, then our community will languish in abject poverty whilst other parts of the country take their share of the national cake and that of Nandom as well,” he said.
He also pointed to what he described as his extensive social capital and networks across the political divide and the NGO sector, saying these could help him advocate effectively for Nandom’s interests.
“Over the years I have built a very strong social capital and networking across both political divide and the NGO world, and I believe I can make a strong case for Nandom at all levels and across the political divide,” he said.
Mr Isang pledged to conduct his campaign on issues and policies, explicitly rejecting personal attacks, insults and character assassination.
“I pledge to run my campaign on issue base devoid of insults, and character assassination,” he said.
He said the same approach would guide his campaign should he win the NPP nomination and become the party’s parliamentary candidate for the 2028 election.
Mr Isang said he would soon unveil the full composition of his campaign team and appealed to volunteers, Nandome and friends of the constituency to support his bid.

His declaration comes as the Nandom NPP prepares for a potentially competitive parliamentary primary following the party’s defeat in the constituency in the 2024 general elections.
Former Nandom MP Ambrose Dery has already announced his intention to contest the NPP primaries again, while Alois Mohl is expected to enter the race. Martin K. Delle has also previously signalled his intention to contest.
Mr Isang’s entry therefore adds another prominent contender to the emerging race for the NPP’s Nandom parliamentary nomination.
The lawyer, who is the Founder and Master of Chambers at Isang@Law Chambers in Tamale, has previously served as Presiding Member of the Nandom Municipal Assembly and Assemblyman for the Biiregang Electoral Area.
He holds a Teacher’s Certificate from Tamale Training College, a BA in Political Science and Psychology from the University of Ghana, an LLB from KNUST and an MSc in Leadership for Sustainable Development from Queen’s University Belfast in the United Kingdom.
His campaign is being framed around “A United Nandom for a Better Tomorrow.”
