Kwadwo Mpiani, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has publicly criticized the party’s ongoing Thank You Tour, arguing that National Chairman Stephen Ayensu Ntim-rather than a potential flagbearer candidate-should lead the initiative.
In an interview with JoyNews’ The Probe monitored by Kumasimail, Mpiani emphasized the need for unified leadership, stating, “If the chairman is the leader, then he should be the face of this tour, not a candidate who may want to contest again, and there are others who also want to contest.”
His remarks appeared aimed at Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, whose prominent role in the tour has sparked speculation about his 2028 ambitions.
When pressed on claims that Bawumia’s visibility as the 2024 flagbearer makes him a natural rallying point, Mpiani dismissed the notion. “That’s the opinion of some of them. I don’t think that’s the general opinion of the party,” he told host Elton Brobbey.
Addressing post-election reorganization, Mpiani urged the party to prioritize its internal review report.
“I don’t know what was in the report, but the party believes its contents reflect the views of most members, the general public, and both party and non-party people. We should study the report carefully and use it as the foundation to re-engage our supporters, reassuring them that we fully accept its findings as accurate.
“Let’s collectively strategize on behavioral reforms to prevent a recurrence of this situation if Ghanaians grant us another opportunity. I firmly believe this is the path forward”, he said.
