At least nine people are feared missing after torrential rains triggered severe flooding in parts of the Awutu Senya East Municipality, with residents reporting that several individuals were swept away by fast-moving floodwaters.
Unconfirmed reports from affected communities indicate that the victims disappeared after floodwaters rose rapidly, trapping residents who were attempting to move to safer areas.
According to eyewitness accounts, seven people tried to relocate from their location to the roadside as the water level increased. However, the force of the floodwaters overwhelmed them before they could reach safety.
Residents who responded to the situation managed to rescue four of the individuals, but three others remain missing.
In another incident within the municipality, three additional persons are reported to have been carried away by strong currents, adding to the number of people feared missing in the area.
A separate distressing account from Tuba suggests that a woman and her two children were also swept away while attempting to cross through flooded areas. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
The incidents have heightened concerns among residents as communities continue to assess the impact of the flooding, which followed hours of intense rainfall.
Although the figures remain unconfirmed, reports suggest that about nine people are currently unaccounted for, while emergency response teams are expected to continue search efforts and verify the situation.
Authorities are also expected to assess the extent of damage caused by the floods and provide support to affected communities.
