Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare, has challenged the major opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to provide any evidence of health infrastructure projects initiated by former President Mahama’s administration that have been abandoned by the current government.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Pure FM’s political morning show hosted by Kwame Adjei Bohyen, monitored by www.kumasimail.com , the former CEO of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital stated, “Not a single hospital project started by Mahama has been abandoned under President Akufo-Addo. I am challenging them to prove me wrong,” Dr. Nsiah Asare said.
He questioned why the NDC is campaigning with promises to complete the government’s Agenda 111 hospital projects.
“Some NDC members have described the Agenda 111 projects as ‘agenda 419,’ so the question is, why would they complete ‘419’ projects? Some are also saying the Agenda 111 is shrouded in secrecy, and they will have to look into it when they come to power. This gives me an idea of what the NDC means by ‘reset.’ They are going to implement the same approach they used against Kufour’s Eurojet projects, where they found money in the project account but failed to complete a single site during their eight years in government,” he argued.
Dr. Nsiah Asare cited the Fomena and Kumawu hospitals as examples, stating that these were NDC-initiated projects where funds were secured to start construction, yet the NDC failed to complete them.
“It was only last August that we completed the projects for use. Unlike the NDC, when we came to power, not a single hospital project has been abandoned in the country. At the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, they abandoned the Children’s and Maternity blocks to deteriorate, proposing to demolish them for new projects,” Dr. Nsiah Asare explained to Kwame Adjei Bohyen.
He disclosed that the government has so far completed work on the Sewua Regional Hospital and the Afari Military Hospital. He expressed confidence that President Nana Akufo-Addo would commission these projects before the end of his term in office.
