The Presidential Elections Committee (PEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a transparent and credible voters register for the Party’s upcoming presidential primary, following concerns raised across electronic and social media.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Committee said it had observed certain public commentaries that could create misunderstandings among party supporters and the general public.
The PEC emphasized that it has adopted an open and consultative approach throughout the electoral preparations, engaging all presidential aspirants, their representatives, and other relevant stakeholders.
According to the Committee, the Provisional Voters Register has been shared with all candidates to allow them sufficient time to review the document, flag any inaccuracies, and assist the PEC in making necessary corrections.
The Committee acknowledged receiving constructive feedback from individuals, groups, and the campaign teams of some aspirants.
The PEC explained that publishing a provisional voters list is consistent with long-standing electoral best practices in Ghana.
Such publications, it noted, offer an opportunity for individuals whose names are missing to seek redress and allow the public to identify errors, duplications, or ineligible entries.
The Committee also highlighted the history of disputes over electoral albums in internal party contests during the Fourth Republic, noting that these past tensions informed its decision to implement what it described as a “rigorous and transparent album validation and verification process.”
It described as regrettable any suggestions that the Party’s voters album is fictitious or lacks credibility.
Reaffirming its commitment, the PEC assured party members and the public that the voters register for the presidential primary will be credible, verifiable, and trustworthy. It further pledged to ensure that the internal election is conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
The Committee encouraged all stakeholders to continue submitting concerns or observations to its Secretariat at the NPP Headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.
